Last Year Didn't Happen
The PLRA Constitution requires that an Annual General Meeting be held every calendar year to elect officers and the committee, and to set the annual subscription. Unfortunately that didn't take a pandemic into account. It was clearly not feasible to hold an AGM during the lockdown.
Given this the Committee have decided to treat 2020 as if it didn't happen. Membership dues were not collected, so all memberships that were valid for 2019-2020 remain valid for this year. We have enough money in the bank not to worry about running out in the meantime. The Committee and officers have continued under the mandate from the last AGM in 2019.
Lockdown has ended now, but we are still under COVID restrictions. We have asked Harrison School if they could provide us a room for the AGM, as they have in previous years. However their COVID precautions include "fogging" the corridors with disinfectant every evening after the school day ends, so it isn't feasible. Things might have eased up by September, but there is no way of knowing.
Therefore we are going to try to hold an outdoor AGM in August on the north side of the open space (i.e. if you go down the path towards Harrison Road and turn left). Details are yet to be sorted out, but it will probably be on a Sunday afternoon for minimum traffic noise. Once we have a firm date we will be notifying members of the details, both here and by printed paper.
