Tree Survey and Felling
As part of the estate management a tree survey is carried out every three years. The last one was done in September 2015 so another was due (in fact, overdue, but it was held up by the business of getting the management contract transferred to Daniells Harrison).
The survey has now been done (click here to read it). The main finding was that 6 of the large Corsican Pines need to be felled. We now have a quote for this work, which will be done in the autumn to avoid the bird nesting season. The cost is expected to be £4,200 (£3,500 + VAT), which comes to £51.22 per household.
To save money the trunks will be cut into sections about 8 feet long and left around the perimeter of the estate. If anybody wants to cut them up for firewood they are welcome to do so. Having the trunks removed would have cost over £1,000 extra, and we know that some residents have wood-burning stoves, so this seemed like the best option all round.
All of these trees have tree protection orders on them. Normally Fareham Borough Council would require replacement trees to be planted of the same type and within 6 feet. However given the unsuitability of Corsican Pines for the estate we have asked Daniells Harrison to talk to the Council about more suitable options.
